  1. The most interesting to me about the roaring 20's was that it was also known as the jazz age being that I like to play music and listen to music. Other things that interested me were the fact that Germany could not pay its war debt at this time because Germany is my favorite country. Also the fact that this the time of great economic growth for our country and we had a change in government style during the 20’s. The Harlem renaissance was also during this time period brings my favorite poet Langston Hughes. These are only some of the many reasons I find the roaring 20’s interesting.

  2. I find the speakeasies and the time of prohibition very interesting. I think it's kind of ironic how the government wanted to make our country less full of crime and drunks, and it just ended up leading to organized crime and Al Capone. I think that the whole purpose of prohibition was completely a lost cause when it comes to the effects of what it had on the twenties. If you think about it we still have organized crime in our country still and it all began with bootlegging and speakeasies. I think its interesting to see how our world today is affected by what happened many years ago.

  3. The most interesting thing about the 1920's to me is the revolution of women and the "flapper movement". The whole culture of the twenites is really interesting and I think pretty much set the stage for every other generation to progress in some way. The Jazz Age was also the first time that the creativity of our nation was able to shine through, and its also the first time that the people stood together collectively on apsects like prohibition and the war. Women's rights went through reforms that are still important today, the roaring 20's was the foundation of culture, music, and politics today.

  4. I believe the fashion in the 1920's was probably the most interesting thing that occurred in the time period. The major statement that was being made was the "flapper" trend in women. They had bobbed hair, smoked cigarettes, drank, and were promiscuous. They also began to wear makeup, which was something that was looked down upon due to the history of it being present in prostitution. The fashion of the time period just draws my attention. I'm not exactly sure why, but it's something that sticks out to me in the time period because it's so unique.

  5. The link in the table of contents in which i choose was the link about president Hoover. President Hoover was a president during the 20's and he stated that by the end of his presidency, "two cars would be in each garage." He believed that we should ride the prosperity of the early twenties out, but was soon at a downfall. Many people consider him to be one of the big reasons of the start of the great depression due to the signing of the Hawley-Smoot tariff. In fact, many began to change his slogan to... "there will be two families in every garage."

  7. The thing that I found the most interesting was the way that they spoke. They created many different words, and they were incorporated into the everyday lives of the people. Some of the words that they used are even still used in our language today, almost a century later.

I also think it is interesting that so many people became famous during this time. Some of the people were more infamous than famous, but many people made a name for themselves. Infamously, Al Capone made a name for himself by being a gangster and making millions of dollars. People who were famous for good things include Charles Lindbergh, who flew across the Atlantic Ocean by himself and eventually became the most famous man in the 1920's.

  8. Its interesting how the twenties were such a cultural boom for the country. Many new forms of art and music and clothing dominated what was going on during that period. New ideas and new laws and new leaders gave a fresh view of the country. The speakeasies and organized crime that followed it dominated the city streets, all over something like alcohol that isn't seen as bad in our decade. People like Charles Lindbergh and Babe Ruth proved that America can have a few heros. I think it would have been awesome to live in this decade.

  9. A part of the 20's i found interesting was of all the achievments that were accomplished during that time. Gertrude Ederly broke the record for swimming across the English Channel. Charles lindbergh was the first person to complete a transatlantic flight solo. During this time Walt Disney also started becoming famous. Al Capone was also making a name for himself. It was quite a different one, but he was one of the most well known gangsters ever. This was also the time period during which Babe Ruth made his name renown.

  10. What i found interesting about the roaring 20's was that it was a breakthrough for sports. There were a bunch of famous athletes that emerged during this time period. Some of the athletes that were big during the 20's were Babe Ruth, who everyone knows was a baseball player who played for the Yankees, and Jack Dempsey, who was the world champion heavyweight boxer. Knute Rockne was a famous head coach for Notre Dame and since college football was watched more than pro football, got a lot of recognition in the world of sports. I found this very interesting because i am a huge sports fan and sports play a very big part in my life. Seeing that the 1920's was a tremendous breakthough for sports is really fascinating and I always like researching athletes from the beginning of the sports era.

  11. I am extremely intrested in the changing role of women and the rise of feminism. Many things happened in the 20's that have resulted today. Women are as strong and powerful today because of the women who stood up for our rights back then. I'm exited to learn about how much a womens influence has effected society today.

  12. Sports became a big hit in the 1920s, that is what I find interesting. During the 1920s a number of sports became professional or even this was the first time it was recognized. Two of the biggest sports that came to the public's attention was baseball and football. Two of America's past-time sports. The world of baseball grew in the 1920s thanks to the New York Yankees and Babe Ruth. Ruth captivated fans by hitting 60 home-runs in single season, and paving the way for the future NY Yankees dynasties. But football also boomed in the 20s. College football captivated fans with stars like Red Grange and Knute Rockne. These men helped football reach a national level when the NFL came to be in the 1920s. But there were other sports like boxing that grew in popularity. Jack Dempsey won the heavy-weight boxing title in the 20s. The sports world exploded with new life, sports brought people together in the 1920s.

  13. What I found interesting in the roaring 20's was the prohibition era. Illegalizing alcohol was such a big deal because at the time, it seemed to be a huge income. I'm also interested in learning more about the original gangsta Al Capone. He seemed to pretty much control the city of Chicago. I want to learn how people were affected in the time when alcohol was illegal.

  14. I find the beginning of the jazz era encorporated into developing the dance status interesting. I think its interresting how the types of music and dance has changed today but was originally derrived from this era. We still dance the famous ballroom dances like the fox-trot and the tango but we have developed our own ways of dancing too. Its interresting how times have changed. The 1920's was a turning point for women too and how that occured catches my attention alot. Its all amazing how much the world can change in such a small period of time.

  15. My favorite aspect of this era is the beginning of the jazz era and the sports that occurred in the 20's. The beginning of the jazz age is interesting to me because it signifies the beginning of modern-day music in the U.S. The sports of this era also are interesting because this is where football became an important sport in American life and many legends had there careers in this era. It is amazing how much our lives today are affected by events in the twenties.

  16. The most interesting to me about the 1920's was the new technology and new productions. Mass production, which had products made at a higher rate due to machinery and new technology made it easier to make a mass amount of products opposed to manual labor. This eventually led to Henry Ford's assembly line in making Ford T-50 cars. Automobiles were widely used during this era which made transportation much more efficient. Another major breakthrough during this time was the invention of the Radio and how it became a national phenomenon and allowed communication of media to spread faster especially in many households. I really enjoyed this topic during this era and I hope to continue learning about this topic!

  17. The most interesting part of the roaring twenties, in my opinion, was that it was the decade when people started to break away from the norm. It was when people started to develop style and class. The young women defined their style by drinking, wearing short skirts, smoking, and styling their hair differently. young people also defined their generation by developing jazz music, the music style that influences tons of music today. Pop culture of the 1920's was very interesting. To see how pop culture evolved throughout the decades is something that really appeals to me.

  18. For most things in English I choose to learn about, I tend to select the issue of gay rights. I've been passionate about gay rights since I was about 14. Many of my friends live this lifestyle as well as coaches and people I look up to regularly. In the "Roaring Twenties" I found that homosexuals were actually not discriminated against greatly, poked fun but not discriminated. In the 20's they had gay bars called pansy bars that weren't frowned against. During the 20's the economy was flourishing creating an urban area that was ideal for both hetero and homosexuals. When the 30's rolled around with a more conservative era, the discrimination was widespread once again all the way up until the 60's.

  19. The two topics that I looked the most into were the Jazz Age and the decade's sports. I found out about one of the era's great musicians that I had never heard of before, Sidney Bechet. Bechet played several instruments, most notably the clarinet, which is the instrument that I play, and saxophone. He was a very interesting individual; one time he challenged someone to a duel because someone said that he was playing the wrong chord. As for sports, the era is rightfully known as the Golden Age of sports, because it was a time when the popularity of sports in America really took off. There were stars that are still remembered today as some of the best to ever play their respective sports.

  20. To me the most interesting aspects of the Roaring Twenties were the Harlem Renaissance, the jazz age, and the flappers. The flappers were especially interesting to me since they represented society's changing views; this break from Victorian views was a really big social statement.
The literature that came out of this time period is also really interesting.

  21. I think the most interesting part of the Roaring 20s era was the prosperity involved. For the first time in North American history, average people could afford new and modern things. Henry Ford's innovative assembly line production system made cars cheap and many millions were sold during the decade. Also, people could spend their money loosely, often visiting nickelodeons (movie theaters) and seeing sights. The prosperity of the decade is expressed in the architectural sights of the urban areas, where skyscrapers arose in the Art Deco style. The architecture is another topic that interests me.
